Happy New Year everyone.
For January, the weather has been great, but we do need rain desperately.
December was an expensive month, I had 3 trees removed and my driveway, torn out and replaced. Two of the trees were very large pine trees that I hated to see go, but I think one was on its way out. But the two of them they had destroyed over 25 feet of my drive. The other tree was a Bradford Pear. When blooming they are very pretty, but they are an invasive species and should be removed. From its location, it too was going to impact a different section of the drive, so out it went. Today was the first day I could drive on the new concrete. I really liked the slogan the concrete company has;
“If you don’t use concrete, it is your own asphalt”.
This same company removed some pavers and poured a small slab for me a couple of years ago. Pavers may look good, but in a wheelchair or rollator walker, they just beat the tar out of you.
One of my neighbors has 3 horses. I stopped in to visit and get permission to feed them some carrots or apples. They said sure, go ahead. I stopped back by to give them a treat. Two of the horses flat refused carrots. The third hose would have eaten the whole bag. The horses we had when I was a kid would eat almost anything. The one demanded you share your Hershey bar with her which meant she got the whole thing. The other mare would eat almost anything including meat scraps as long as it was in a pan that she thought it came out of the kitchen.
Another neighbor has a small herd or donkeys. I do not feed them, because the fence is electric but I do stop and talk to them. They ignore me.
There are 4 or 5 deer I see frequently. One buck and the rest does. The buck is missing half of his rack. I have no idea what happened to it. The last time I saw him was after the fall rut, so he may have shed it or had it blown off by a hunter trying for a head shot. I think I blew the rack off a young buck in Idaho trying the same thing. After the first shot he ran about 20 yards and stopped and turned around to look at me. I did not miss the second shot. He was a spike buck. I had it processed and sadly it was not fit to eat. We ended up throwing most of it away.
Off the usual subjects, I sent a letter to both Texas US Senators. I agree something mus be done about the drug problems, but I don’t think starting a war with Venezuela will accomplish anything. And President Trumps plan to take over or annex Greenland is absurd. I am so far to the right that I am about to fall off the edge of the earth, but I think Trump should be impeached.
Later,
Rex
Nothing better than feeding horses!! They do like apples, but mine never liked carrots either. Not sweet enough!!
ReplyDeleteWe have a donkey across our street. Curtis bought me some carrots for it, but for some reason I think they changed his pasture a bit and he isn't coming up. Our weather has been pretty awesome. Did have a cold week in Oklahoma but then it got warm. I love warm!!!!
