Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond May 30, 2022 A special Thank you to all of the Veterans. The way this country is moving I expect to be called back to active duty any day. I don't really want to confront a bunch of any old men and nobody in their right mind wants to either. To my knowledge, no one has relieved any Honorably Discharged Veteran from his Oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution. And sadly that need to defend the Constitution may arise. It has been a busy week here at Carol's Pond. Whitey and Blue Boy have both stopped in for a visit and a meal. Samantha Jane, Blue Boy and Jr have all been here. More about Samantha Jane in a minute. But the real action has been at the shop. The building has a covered porch down one side. The cheap bastard that built it used particle board for the roof decking. And then on top of that he did not install the roof properly. As a result, the roof on the porch leaked and the particle boa
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond May 16, 2022 The Beginning On May 16, 1964 I was on my way home from the The Lebanon Reporter on my bicycle. I was north bound on Lebanon St. That is a down hill run and I was late and was moving right along. At the intersection of Lebanon and West North St. an elderly lady in a 64 Corvair made a left hand turn and hit me broadside. The bicycle will mold to the front end of a 64 Corvair as though it was part of the bumper. Or an early model brush guard. This was about 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning. It was Wednesday before I knew who I was and where I was. This altercation lacked 1 day of being 38 years before my head on with the Mack truck on May 15, 2002. While still in the hospital, my friend Gene Voorhies and his sister Janet would come to visit. Gene would come and see me and Janet would go and visit Carol. Carol was in for test to see if she had osteogenic sarcoma, bone cancer. While I was still in the
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond May 15, 2022 Today is the 20 th anniversary of my head on altercation with a Mack truck. Since then I have had 8 surgeries and 6 kidney procedures and there are 5 more to come. All because of a low life drunk thinking he was in a hurry. But I got lucky 3 times: 1, I am alive, 2, I can walk and 3 the Lord took him before I had to. Hopefully the Lord kicked him out to Hell. Samantha Jane has become a pipe walker. On the deck, rather than wooden sides there are pipes to keep one from stepping off. She likes to walk on the pipes and she is a bad influence on Sam Jr. Rather than walking the pipes and getting exercise, he chooses to just lay on the pipe and soak up the heat. Blue Boy the great blue heron has been visiting over at the neighbors and Whitey has been AWOL. Rex Jr. is doing fine and he and his Mother have rejoined the herd. After such a traumatic birth they were kept separate from the herd fo
Carol's Pond May 2, 2022 It has been very entertaining around the pond recently. Blue Boy the Great Blue Heron has decided that he likes to perch on the turtles log. I am not sure the turtles approve. But at least he does not stay long. And speaking of turtles, I saw one going across the yard heading for the pond. I don't know if it was a traveler just stopping in or if it had been searching for a nesting site. I have not found a nest. I figured they would nest on Goat Island, but I have never seen any signs of it. Samantha Jane the green lizard, had been acting up. She parades up and down the railings on the deck, expanding her throat to a nice red color. She is trying her best to get Sam to snuggle with her. Sam Jr. hides most of the time. But today, I became a great Grand Father, sort of. I was heading into town to get something from the grocery and noticed 5 or 6 buzzards around one of my neighbors cows. It was obvious she was having a difficult birt
