Today is the 23rd Anniversary of the wreck with the Mack Truck.  

I have had some visitors recently; Blue Boy, the Great Blue Heron flew past just to say hello as did Whitey, the Great White egret and one of my favorites, the Roadrunner was in my neighbors field.  Road runners are a pretty bird. My back door has glass to within about 4 inches of the floor.  The roadrunner came right up to the glass and looked in.  They are not afraid.  And Woody Woodpecker has been very active this spring.  I have seen Woody twice but not well enough to identify it.  And the bull frogs in Carol's Pond have been serenading me too.

Out on Goat Island I found a complete turtle shell.  It is not completely empty, part of it's body is rattling around inside.  I have it outside where it can finish drying.

A week or so ago, we had so much rain the water was going over the dam.  That makes me nervous but it is just in one spot.  The dam is east of me as is the flood plain, so if the dam were to fail, I would not harm my property. 

Speaking of visitors, Lee and Jill Henderson, friends from St. Louis, stopped for the night before going on to Dallas to visit their son.

    Wow .. 23 years. I remember you speaking of that way back when. It definitely changed your life, but not your fortitude! I have to admit I have a few birds around here, but the bullfrogs get my vote. I love the sound of bullfrogs singing. As for the turtle shell ... good find. That's one critter we have never had around here. Say hello to Woody for me!!

    Our pond is getting full and getting noisy. I do enjoy the all the animals and the critters noise. It is so quiet and peaceful here in Oklahoma

I have been doing some serious reading, often 2 books a day, but the eyes say stop for a while. My livestock, Samantha, Sam, Bob, Sam Jr. and Samantha Jane have been in hiding. I think it was just too hot for them. But I have seen a very young one and I have named it, Little One. Little One might be 2 inches long and is probable Sam's relation. Of course these are small lizards. Don't ask me what kind, I don't know. Whitey, the great egret has been missing too, but I finally saw him on my neighbors pond. But now he is back to Carol's Pond, along with his mate or friend or whatever. Blue Boy is still MIA. Last week the new windows came in and were installed.   February 1, 2022 Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond The last week of January is my anniversary week. Some of them are enjoyable anniversaries and some suck really bad. That may be gross but it is the only way to say it. But before we get to the description of the anniversaries, there is some other news. Last week I looked in the back yard and there were hundreds of Purple Grackles or common blackbirds. I assume there are working their way north in anticipation of spring. I hope they are right. And there were some ducks that stopped in today. There were only 5 or 6. Something startled them and off they went. I seldom see ducks. Lake Bob Sandlin is on the west side of Mt. Pleasant and I suspect most stop there rather than on a small pond. Also last week, I had an MRI of my head and received some excellent news. The scan did NOT indicate Lewy-Body Dementia. LB is a very aggressive type of dementia. I will have 2 more scans to try and determin...

Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond March 7, 2021 Hopefully hibernation season is over. It appears that spring has sprung. There were a lot of daffodils blooming in the side ditch but a hard rain beat about all of the blooms off the stems. But more popped up, including the ones in Carol's yard. Also there are tiny white flowers and some blue and purple ones as well and of course my favorite, dandelions. During that cold snap, Carol's Pond froze over and that is not acceptable at all. Mother Nature are you listening? There were several ducks that stuck around most of the winter, but I have not seen them today. They were very fast swimmers, fast enough to create a good wake behind them. I dubbed them the Shore Patrol. Those of you that were in the military know what the shore patrol is.
