Carol’s Dragonfly Ranch
Home of Carol’s Pond
March 4, 2026
Hopefully winter is over. I detest cold weather. I keep my thermostat on 76 and still sleep with a sheet, and an electric blanket and still another blanket on top. Being cold sucks.
But I am afraid I am going to have to get tough and ugly with Mother Nature. I realize Nancy Kissack out in California is trying not to drown because of all of the rain and fog she has had. We have had fog, but no rain. So I explained to Mother Nature that if she does not bring us rain and I mean several inches, that I will be forced to step out on the deck and shoot her a full moon in broad daylight. Nobody and I mean nobody wants to see my bare ass, but Mother Nature is forcing the issue. Carol’s Pond is at least 2 feet low. Goat Island is now a peninsula and has been for several months. The Idaho desert was not as dry as it is here.
I bought a Sony All-in-One computer at a sale for $20.00 It had been a Windows 7 machine. I tried to but Linux Mint on it, but because of Sony proprietary software it will not run Linux software. So now it has Windows 10 on it which in my opinion is complete junk. My late friend and neighbor had a Sony TV and the color was great. The color on this computer is great, probably the best of all of my machines, but the operating system leaves a lot to be desired. Speaking of great pictures, a year or so ago I bough a Hyundai monitor at a sale. It has amazing color too and is compatible with Linux. I did not know Hyundai manufactured monitors. I understand Wal-Mart sells them. I am impressed with it. Most all monitors with a VGA or DVI or HDMI port are compatible with Linux. The Sony is the only thing I have found that is not compatible. I have HP, Dell, Acer, Gateway and Hyundai monitors and they all work with Windows or Linux.
So far this spring I have not seen Sam or Samantha or Jane or Junior. It is warm enough unless they did not survive the cold winter we had. I had a tiger swallowtail butterfly cruise across the deck yesterday. But none of the other livestock have made an appearance. But the trees are starting to leaf out, the redbud and the tulip tree are all blooming. The tulip tree has a wonderful fragrance. Blue Boy and Whitey stop in for a snack or meal every now and then.
But I have some squatters here at the pond. There is a hobbit house on the sunroom roof. It has survived wind and the snow and sleet from January. I haven’t seen any of the inhabitants. Their home is made from the cap of a large acorn.
Later,
Rex
