Carol's Pond

April 1, 2023

March has never been one of my favorite months, but this past March ticked me off. Why you ask? The Turtle Log broke off. That just isn't right. I am not sure what caused it to break, but I suspect either too many turtles on it or a darter. A darter is similar to a cormorant. Unlike ducks and geese, their feathers are not water proof. As a result before they can fly they must get out of the water and dry off. They liked to perch on the turtle log to accomplish this. I have seen turtles on Goat Island but to see them I have go down to the pond. I am going to create a new turtle log and anchor it to the island and hopefully they will use it. We shall see.

A gentleman here in Mt. Pleasant, Bill Jones, passed away this week. He was a character and had lots of funny stories. Some of which were X rated or at least PG 30. Bill was also an amazing singer. He and his grandson Garrett Lyons recorded a CD. Garrett sang the first 5 and Bill the last 5. His version of the Rose won him several Karaoke competitions. I will miss him. Bill's cousin is the coordinator for Senior Services and is a nice person too.

Sam, Junior and finally Samantha have made appearances. As usual Samantha was trying to flirt with ever male around. She does that by extending her throat which turns bright red. I was getting concerned about her because I had not seen her yet this spring. There is also a Flicker woodpecker in the neighborhood.

Later,

Rex

  1. I have been thinking of you and was going to message but I get sidetracked. I am glad your friends are returning for you to watch them. Your stories about them are always so enjoyable and entertaining. Wish the weather would get warm and stay there. Hard to believe it is April already. I hope we all make it through the stormy seasons with out anything bad happening. Have the salvage yard almost done and really close to being in Oklahoma. Later. Lettie

  2. Sounds like a new turtle log is in order and I know you are up to the task. I'm glad your feathery friends have come back to say hello. It's fun to watch their antics. So sorry to hear about Mr. Jones ... he sounds like a real character! I'm hoping April shows us a little more sun ... we could use some warm!! Good to hear from you Rex .....
