Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond April 6, 2021 to May 2, 2021 Well hopefully Spring is in full swing! The daffodils are done blooming and the roses are blooming. I have not seen any Iris yet, but my lawn service may have mowed them down. We shall see. But one way I know spring is here is that Sam and Samantha have come out of hibernation. Yesterday I watched Sam get a caterpillar for lunch. I hope he liked it. Samantha watched him eat the whole thing and appeared to be a little ticked that he did not offer to share his bounty. Samantha was flirting with Sam but he ignored her and just ate his lunch. I tried to tell him he was making a mistake, but I don't think he cares. And speaking of bounty, thanks to the Parkinson's I sometimes see a whale, much like is pictured on the cover of Moby Dick. But then I have also seen goats, cats, hogs, wolves and just blobs. Except for the fast moving ones that one sees frequently the large ones only ...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond March 7, 2021 Hopefully hibernation season is over. It appears that spring has sprung. There were a lot of daffodils blooming in the side ditch but a hard rain beat about all of the blooms off the stems. But more popped up, including the ones in Carol's yard. Also there are tiny white flowers and some blue and purple ones as well and of course my favorite, dandelions. During that cold snap, Carol's Pond froze over and that is not acceptable at all. Mother Nature are you listening? There were several ducks that stuck around most of the winter, but I have not seen them today. They were very fast swimmers, fast enough to create a good wake behind them. I dubbed them the Shore Patrol. Those of you that were in the military know what the shore patrol is. For those that weren't, it is Naval Military Police. There has also been a darter around this spring. A darter is a type of cormorant and its feathers a...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond February 15, 2021 Happy Valentines Day Mother Nature has played a cruel joke on much of the nation. This cold and snow is not acceptable. However what is worse than the cold and snow is the fact that it chased off the Shore Patrol. The Shore Patrol was a flock of Bufflehead ducks that had been cruising and patrolling Carol's Pond for about 2 months now. They are very pretty and extremely fast swimmers. They leave a long wake behind them. Whitey has not been here nor has Blue Boy. But I have seen several robins and blue jays. The turtles were still playing king of the log until the cold weather hit and now they are enjoying the big sleep. I often wonder if death is like being sound asleep. And I have pets again. Miserable things. The current one is a dog, complete with a collar that runs around on my bedroom ceiling when I first wake up. But there was also a whale that reminded me of the one in Moby Dick...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond January 21, 2021 I must be real difficult to live with because all of my pets have moved out!!! Good riddance. But all of the Parkinson's creatures are gone and that is great. But there are some new seasonal residents on Carol's Pond, Bufflehead ducks, I think. They are pretty and they cruise around like they are on patrol. There are about 18 to 24 of them and I think there are 2 mallard hens with them. I would like to see them stick around all year. Whitey, the Great White Egret stopped in for breakfast. I had not seen him for several weeks and I figured he had moved farther south. Some hawks have started showing up too. January 11, I was supposed to have cataract surgery in Tyler, TX. Tyler is about 70 to 75 miles from me, so Lorna Bailey and I went to Tyler on Sunday night. It was snowing hard and people in southeast TX have no idea how to drive in it. Many of them insisted on driving in the left lan...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond January 2, 2021 To get to the blog: carolspond.blogspot.com And once again, I have some new 'roommates', compliments of Parkinson's. The goat, the poodle and the one claw lobster and the cat have moved out. Good riddance. But in their place I sometimes have a pig that goes scooting across the ceiling or sometimes a wolf. The wolf is crouched down like it is stalking something. What I find weird, is that the ones that move, move from north to south or left to right. When I still lived in St. Louis, I went to the Jefferson Barracks VA hospital. The Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery is also on that property. There are more than 188,000 graves at this site. While on the property, I have seen deer, a lot of ground hogs and one morning a coyote stalking his prey. I wanted to stop and watch but some jerk was right on my bumper. I should have locked up the brakes. Since my last update, I had a Covid scare...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond December 14, 2020 Carolspond.blogspot.com This link will get you to the blog. There are a couple of new Facebook type organizations out there. One is: https://mewe.com/ and the other is: https://parler.com/auth/access Right now I am leaning towards MeWe.com I will let you know. But there is some news from Carol's Pond. I have a new roomate, kind of, compliments of Parkinson's Disease. One of the side effects of PD, is seeing things that are not really there. I believe the proper term is apparition or hallucinations. When I was in Indiana last summer, in the morning there was a lobster that only had one claw up on the ceiling and to the side of it was a standard size poodle that had been groomed. But alas they have moved on and my new roommate is a long haired goat with horns. In the morning when I first wake up it will kind of hop across the ceiling. How the lobster or the poodle or the goat ...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch home of Carol's Pond December 1, 2020 There are several items to discuss from Carol's Pond, the main one is Sam Rodgers failure to control his livestock. I walked in the atrium today and Samantha was up near the ceiling. I pushed her down with a broom and she ran under the stereo cabinet and refused to come out. So I waited about 20 minutes and saw her on a box. I got after her with the broom again and she tried to hide in the box. That was perfect. Out the door she went and is now under the deck where she belongs. I think she wants to set up permanent residence in the atrium and that will not be permitted. Also since the last update a flock of ducks stopped in for a few hours. I think they were mallards, but I could not see them well enough to be sure. They were on the far side of Carol's Pond and even with binoculars I could not determine the species. We seldom get ducks here and there are no Canada geese either. A few du...
