September 6, 2022 Carol's Dragonfly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond It was a very enjoyable weekend. My niece paid her first visit to Carol's Pond. I think she found a new home in the atrium. Every time I turned around, she was either looking out the windows at the Turtle Log or was in a chair reading. We wanted to go to the Audie Murphy Museum at Greenfield, Texas but it was closed for the weekend. Jerry Mundell and I went through this museum a couple of months ago. It was very interesting and I would go again. It is at exit 90 on Interstate 30. But we had a good time and she helped me go through some of the pictures I have. Sadly Goat Island is still Goat Peninsula. I want the island back but Mother Nature is being contrary. And speaking of Goat Island, Whitey the great white egret likes to fish from it. But I think Whitey and his wife may have had a falling out. Twice last week he went to roost on the Turtle Log. He was still there after sunset. I kn...

August 12, 2022 Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond I have spoken with a lot of my friends this week and I have enjoyed it immensely. Hopefully I will talk with more of them. This week saw a first, Whitey and his mate were here at the same time. I see Whitey frequently but I had never seen the two of them before. They were dining on fresh sushi!! Tuesday, Dr. Campbell a pain management specialist gave me an injection in my spine to try and control the pain some. So far I can not tell any benefit from this cortisone injection. Also on what I call Road Runner Alley, I saw a Road Runner. They are a tall bird. It was strutting across the road like he owned it. But I was moving right along and he decided to fly. He only flew about 20 feet then it was back to running. At the bank yesterday a crackle, a bird between the size of a blackbird and a crow was on the parking lot when a butterfly of some type flew buy. The crackle saw it and took off ...

Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond July 27, 2022 It has been a busy couple of weeks since the 18 of the month. On Monday, the 18, I woke up at 6 and felt fine. At 7:30 things went to hell. I was very nauseous and had the trots. Finally about 2, I called the ambulance. They took me to Titus Regional Medical Center and on Tuesday they ripped out my appendix which had ruptured. I am still fighting the infection. Karen Vanderveer, a long time friend from my days of running around Butler University came and picked me up and brought me home. Gene Voorhies came up and babysat me for 3 days until I was able to function on my own. I owe both Karen and Gene many thanks. But thankfully I am on the mend. I am very sore and my abdomen is multicolored. Tomorrow the staples will be removed. I don't want any more staples. This was surgery number 15 in my life and that is enough. Gene and I watched Whitey try and catch lunch. I did see Samantha...

Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond July 2, 2022 I would like to thank Jerry Mundell for his donation, in Carol's name to the Lebanon Elk's Lodge Major Project which is cancer research. Today July 2, is mine and Carol's anniversary. The Elk's do not keep any of the donations. If the state receives $100,000 in donations, 2 checks are cut and hand delivered to the heads of the research departments at IU and Purdue. This week found the California Kid, aka Jerry Mundell staying with me for a couple of days. It was a very enjoyable visit. On Thursday, the 30 th we went to Greenville, TX to visit the Audie Murphy Museum. It is a humbling experience. I would go again and I think Jerry would too. But while Jerry was here, Samantha Jane, Sam and Sam Jr. chose to hide. I don't know if they are bashful or afraid of Jerry. They might have thought that Jerry would take them to California. But I don't think he would do that. ...

June 25, 2022 Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond Things have been hopping here on the ranch. A new roof was installed on the porch of the shop. The new roof is metal and should last at least my lifetime. The old was improperly installed and water ran under the rolled roofing causing the particle board to rot. As a result of this rot, the guy doing the work had to dismantle the roof from the bottom since it was not safe to walk on. So at last, Texas Stone Henge is gone. There is a retired ophthalmologist in Paris, TX that had a few fetishes, shoes, clothes and electronic gadgets of all kinds. I went to the estate sale and he must have had 40 pairs of shoes, new in the box, never worn. Tennis shoes and boots. Some of the boots had fake fur lining. I hate the cold and would have bought them but they were way too small at 9 ½ and I wear a 12. I did buy a pair of slacks, brand new with the original tags still on them that were made in the USA. The ...

Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond May 30, 2022 A special Thank you to all of the Veterans. The way this country is moving I expect to be called back to active duty any day. I don't really want to confront a bunch of any old men and nobody in their right mind wants to either. To my knowledge, no one has relieved any Honorably Discharged Veteran from his Oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution. And sadly that need to defend the Constitution may arise. It has been a busy week here at Carol's Pond. Whitey and Blue Boy have both stopped in for a visit and a meal. Samantha Jane, Blue Boy and Jr have all been here. More about Samantha Jane in a minute. But the real action has been at the shop. The building has a covered porch down one side. The cheap bastard that built it used particle board for the roof decking. And then on top of that he did not install the roof properly. As a result, the roof on the porch leaked and the particle boa...

Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond May 16, 2022 The Beginning On May 16, 1964 I was on my way home from the The Lebanon Reporter on my bicycle. I was north bound on Lebanon St. That is a down hill run and I was late and was moving right along. At the intersection of Lebanon and West North St. an elderly lady in a 64 Corvair made a left hand turn and hit me broadside. The bicycle will mold to the front end of a 64 Corvair as though it was part of the bumper. Or an early model brush guard. This was about 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning. It was Wednesday before I knew who I was and where I was. This altercation lacked 1 day of being 38 years before my head on with the Mack truck on May 15, 2002. While still in the hospital, my friend Gene Voorhies and his sister Janet would come to visit. Gene would come and see me and Janet would go and visit Carol. Carol was in for test to see if she had osteogenic sarcoma, bone cancer. While I was still in the ...
