Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond Sept. 29, 2023 Except for more falls it has been a quiet month. No injuries from the falls as I landed on the bed. But they are still irritating. Because of all of the recent spills and my injuries from the wrecks, I have been approved for a power chair. On the 21 st I was measured for the chair. I had no idea what all is involved. First your doctor sends a prescription for an evaluation by a physical therapist. And then the chair provider takes over, measuring the user, getting the chair built, Medicare approval and my insurance companies approval. In all it will probably take 3 months. I will use the chair primarily at home. The stores I shop in have scooters. But I will either have to have my GMC Acadia fitted with a hoist or get a different vehicle. I could put a unit in the trailer hitch but I want it in and out of the weather. But what is the difference between a power chair and a scooter? A scoote...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond August 7, 2023 It has been an eventful couple of weeks. My friend Tom and I have been power washing and staining the deck. About 2 weeks ago I was power washing the deck and stepped in a fire ant nest. I do not have much feeling in my left foot. Finally they got above my knee and I discovered the monsters. I stripped out on the deck. But the damage was done. There was about a 2 inch band all around the top of my ankle high socks. They even got down inside my sock and bit my big toe!!! Now that is just mean. This was on Thursday. Friday I was kneeling and trying to connect a hose to the spigot. I lost my balance and fell landing half on and half off the deck. My right ribs aren't real happy yet. But the worst was having my right arm land right in a fire ant nest. For most, no big deal, but I am not strong enough to get up off the ground. I was in that nest for over an hour. My phone was inside. I yel...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond July 10, 2023 I think it is time for the rest of the story as the late Paul Harvey would have said: Many of you know that Carol passed away on November 29, 1966. I was at Ball State when it happened. After her funeral, I returned to Ball State. But I only stayed a few days. I had one professor who was a communist and liked to preach at us from the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and another one that was gay. Him being gay was his business, but I did not pay money to hear him talk about how great it was to be gay. If I had stayed in school, I would have had to hit one of them. They were not worth me going to jail over, so I dropped out. My mind was all screwed up. So I went drinking. I stayed drunk from December 1966 to January 1968. Uncle Sam's USAF sobered me up. I don't regret those 14 months but I do not want to ever go through that again. Fast forward to 1970, I married Susie. That marri...
June 20, 2023 Carol's Dragonfly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond The last few days have been a pain in my acetabulum. Last Wednesday night, just past midnight, the power went out. No big deal. It happens way too frequently here. So I went to bed. The next morning I still did not have power. I looked out in the back yard and 2 of my neighbors oak trees are now in my backyard. My neighbor to the east of me, lost 6 trees. The guy 2 doors west decided to loan Debbie an oak tree since 2 of hers were AWOL. Today, June 20 th , the power came back on around 1300 hours or 1:00 p.m. So in all it was out 5 and a half days. What a PITA (pain in the ass). I finally broke down and went to a motel. I can handle the heat at night and sleep fairly well. But after 4 days, I needed a shower desperately. I smelled worse than a hog pen. This was a major storm that did a lot of damage across a very large area. Since I do not have a TV I get my news off the internet. Shrevep...
Carol's Dragon Fly Ranch Home of Carol's Pond April 24, 2023 There have been some happenings with the neighbors. One of my neighbors has several acres and raises a couple dozen cattle. His bull was a bluish gray Brahma that was called Blue Boy. When they first got him, he was very docile. He liked to be hand fed and have his ears rubbed. But then his owner went nuts and sold all of his girl friends. Well Blue Boy tolerated it for a couple of months but then decided it was time for action. So he chased his owner around his truck a couple of laps. Sadly Blue Boy now has a new home. I don't think Blue Boy liked being a bachelor. It is cold here today, only 62 way below 80. Last week there were a couple of days in the 80's. And on one of the warm days, Sam, Junior and Samantha Jane were all on the deck at the same time. And one of Samantha Jane's relation showed up too. I don't have a name for this new one yet. Any suggestions? But yester...
Carol's Pond April 1, 2023 March has never been one of my favorite months, but this past March ticked me off. Why you ask? The Turtle Log broke off. That just isn't right. I am not sure what caused it to break, but I suspect either too many turtles on it or a darter. A darter is similar to a cormorant. Unlike ducks and geese, their feathers are not water proof. As a result before they can fly they must get out of the water and dry off. They liked to perch on the turtle log to accomplish this. I have seen turtles on Goat Island but to see them I have go down to the pond. I am going to create a new turtle log and anchor it to the island and hopefully they will use it. We shall see. A gentleman here in Mt. Pleasant, Bill Jones, passed away this week. He was a character and had lots of funny stories. Some of which were X rated or at least PG 30. Bill was also an amazing singer. He and his grandson Garrett Lyons recorded a CD. Garrett sang the first 5 and Bi...
January 25,2023 Carol's Pond Well this is my anniversary week. My niece Erika was born on January 24, I was honorably discharged from the USAF on January 25, 1972 I went on active duty on January 26, 1968 I was divorced on January 27, 1978 My Mother passed away on January 30, 1994 and my sister Betty passed away on January 31, 1960. And this morning I was discharged from Home Health Care per my request. I think there are probably others out there that need their assistance more than I do. I am kind of looking for a live in caregiver. About 10 days ago, I had some red paver blocks removed. These were the type that resemble a stop sign with a handle. In their place I had a concrete slab poured. The blocks were sinking from erosion and were a fall hazard. The slab will make getting around in my wheel chair a lot easier. I am not in the chair yet, but I don't think it will be long. The way this house is set up, I can get out of the car in the drive, get ...
